Formbot Trident 250 kit build + mods in plan

Hi guys,

I'm new in 3d printing world (since September 2022) and it is so contagious so I decide to build my first Voron, and this is its diary. :)
Formbot Trident 250mm kit arrived today so I had to build at least a frame. Also finished ~50% of the needed parts are printed, in eSun ABS+, on my 3 months old Ender 3 S1 Plus (300mm) covered with carboard box.
However I've got molded Afterburner parts prepared with inserts (no Voron sign-letter on it), also the molded filter and screen housing.

Plan is to build it as much stock as possible to learn and while I'm waiting ordered upgrades. Then I'll modify it and do the needed upgrades&mods and maybe I'll reprint parts in some nicer color.

What I'm waiting to arrive:
  • Orbiter v2.0 + Orbiter v2 filament sensor
  • BTT EBB36 and by mistake Mellow Fly-SB2040 v1 (at that moment I didn't know it cannot work with Orbiter 2)
  • TAP (it seams I ordered it on two places, so two sets I'll get lol)
  • Rapido (non PT1000 - not sure is this good decision and do I needed it)
  • Stealthburner upgrade kit with all the leds and diffusors
  • LED sticks for housing
  • preordered X Super light hollow CNC Fysetc gantry (yes I know, I figure out later that they are the bad guys but there is no option to cancel)
  • Already have an Pi4 (2GB), BTT 5" screen, also CB1 + HDMI5 has arrived, will see what I'm gonna use.

Also I'll try to build it slowly to enjoy longer, lol

Let me know how this slowly building is going xD I also thought I start slowly, source the parts and have a nice project building it for the next month. Now it looks like it prints before christmas.

I choosed to build a Voron for the same reason, got my first printer mid October :D

I already printed AB drive units but now as I've got Silver (more gray looking) ABS+ will reprint it as bi-color, not sure is that good idea as well but we'll see.

Wow, the bug bit you two hard. Most people would say build stock then do the mods but I can see why you want to do mods at the same time.
The only one that seems a bit ambitious is the CAN bus but it will save some wiring. Get used to crimping wires and do yourselves a favor and get some good connector kits and tools.

Definetly, always spend a bit more on a good tool. They usually then last for a lifetime.

Right. Already got some tools&screws and some are on the way, so more to come.
These I'm waiting for...

The red looks better near the black then beside the grey/silver but we'll see at the end.

Everyone recommends building stock first then doing mods but I would go straight for Steathburner, although your Afterburner looks great. But if you are going to print PLA it will be fine using Afterburner.

I would but parts did not arrive nor I'm sure will get them this year or when exactly.
Anyway Afterburner v6 will be used later for different project, thinking about the Ender 3 Pro to Switchwire conversion. Or it will be converted to mini AB for v0 or to SB, it doesn't matter.
Btw I think SB should be better for PLA as well cause of bigger blower, but not that important for this build. :)

I was busy today...
Rails cleaned out, lubricated with some lithium grease (I know I know, but parcel won't be here this year and I could not find anything better), mounted along all the motors.
Some bearings (balls) missing, those (slow) rails are mounted to Z axis.

Started with electronic bay and was thinking the printer will sit in a small size storage room where is no possibility to turn over printer wherever I like.
So I went with Inverted Electronics mod and I like it. :)
Powerful 24V Led strip added to the bed mounting extrusion (will beautify that later), and that was a boom! I can see clearly everything under the hood now! Big like.

Some cable management ducts printed...
Added additional power supply for light strips which is 26W/m and there's almost a meter. Maybe I'll use that power supply with a step-down for CB1 as RS-25-5 is missing from the Formbot kit.
