It's definitely not mandatory by any means. If you build without the mod, there are alternative feet for the trident that makes it easier to turn the printer on it's back. I've seen several prople swear by it (but I don't have a name/link)

Very cool, non-convex packing! This explains why my PR Arrange room for skirt and brim #9181 never was merged - they were already working on similar things. I was going to look at non-convex packing after I got this first PR merged. Glad I waited! I have to try it and see if it works with skirt...
I ordered separately the hartk 2pc cards, but I don't think ill use it to begin with. The ldo kit has precrimped cables and all those need to be redone to use the 2pc pcb. A lot of hastle bc i suck at crimping and also the 2pc pcb has a supertiny connector (smaller than the usual troublesome...
Have you checked your connectors? Just an idea.
I had similar problems with my first V0.0. After a lot of troubleshooting, my problem was fixed by redoing a bad crimp on the connector to the controller board. One connection was not fastened properly.
