I was basically getting tired of homing and doing a QGL after every print as that eats into time between batches. And when doing batch production with a belt mod like this, time is money. Also, I'm not sure if this goes under the deep end or not, as it's just macros and not printing data...

I definitely see this as a usable redundancy. Though you kind of have to make sure it isn't wired to the DC side of the SSR, as magnetic relays don't like PID of any kind (I speak from experience.) On the AC side this shouldn't be an issue. Though I do see how this could be used with CANBUS or...

I kind of had an idea on how to do auto z offset calibration with TAP but I don't know if it's as consistent as I think it is between printers. I'm my case I use Optotap with vatali's TAP. And before anyone mention's beacon, I print on a 3mm sheet of galorite so it won't be accurate in my case...
