Q: Is your PLA bone dry? I have seen similar kinds of artifacts caused by bubbling (i.e. a steam pocket essentially) coming out of the nozzle. I don't know about your weather, but up here in western NY it's been ridiculously wet for weeks.

I found the trident assy as a step file on github, so I'll examine that before I ask any more questions about feasibility of reversing the gantry assy.
