160mm Salad Fork Build Log (DFH kit)

Wrote an email to the support address listed in the phaetus site, that bounced immediately. Not super impressed with that. My last attempt at a fix didn’t stay, so I will use some wire to strap this thing into place

Solved Help Understanding How print_start Works - How To Modify

Klipper by itself doesn't have a macro built in, but the default voron configs have a very basic print_start embedded toward the bottom of the printer.cfg file

Question Is Anyone Using a BLTouch Style of Probe?

I've had genuine BLTouch melt in an unenclosed ender 5, I think even the bed heat is enough to make those unhappy. If that's the case, I wouldn't trust something only rated to 60c, when there are several alternatives commonly available (inductive, klicky, tap)

160mm Salad Fork Build Log (DFH kit)

Post-holiday progress pics Got the towhead put together, this is a stealth burner of course :) I ran into an issue with the DropEffect XG hotted though, the thermistor is secured in a little brass support with some form of ceramic compound, but mine completely disintegrated. I saw a bunch of...

Question Filament battles - What is you experience with fusion ABS?

I love fusion filaments, while the color selection is rather small compared to some other manufacturers, the spool to spool consistency has been spot on, no issues. Their high-sparkle filaments are fantastic to see, and print really cleanly. I only have one issue with fusion, and that is I...

Question Filament battles - What is you experience with Inland ABS?

I picked up a few spools cheap on amazon for a test, I use these as my prototyping filament since they print pretty consistently. I've seen a few places where there are cooling issues, so you may want to up the fan speed a bit on these, but I haven't done a full and proper filament tune on this.

Question Filament battles - What is you experience with KVP ABS?

I generally like KVP, and I love their wide variety of colors, they have shades that I can't find anywhere else, including a really nice British Racing Green. Prints very consistently and I haven't had issues with them. However, all of the spools I have are from before their infamous...

Turning a German RepRap x400 into a Voron

160mm Salad Fork Build Log (DFH kit)

Build is still progressing, been on vacation so it paused a bit. Working on the toolhead, but need to order a fan since I will be putting mini-sb on it instead of mini-ab. Once that gets in I’ll get that all sorted out. In the mean time, belts have been run, and I decided this one will use...

    Trident is the best!

Just anecdotal evidence, but it seems like every person I’ve conversed with that has both a v2 and a trident prefer the trident. Nothing wrong with a v2 either, just trident is a more straightforward build

160mm Salad Fork Build Log (DFH kit)

Got the Z motion, motors and idlers all built. Starting to look like a printer! I included a detail photo of the rear Z extrusion, this shows how it's intended to look. It does not center on the horizontal extrusion above it, and there should be about a 1mm gap between the two as well...

160mm Salad Fork Build Log (DFH kit)

When you realize you forgot to print some parts... Good thing I've got a handy salad fork available :) Also no fear with a lot of small parts!

    CAN bus end stops

I kept the X endstop on the toolhead for my setups, although sensorless would also be a viable option

160mm Salad Fork Build Log (DFH kit)

Z motors attached! First bit of color on the frame! I oriented the steppers so that the wires on the front two point toward the center, and the rear one points left. This is because the AC inlet is on the right, and the less other wires going that way the better. Also because the bed wiring...

160mm Salad Fork Build Log (DFH kit)

Thank you! Yes, regular M3 nuts and M3x6 BHCS for the backers. These would be nicer with a FHCS in there, as there is already a recess in them for that, but the kit didn't come with those and I don't have enough spares in my inventory either. So BHCS it is, still looks good enough for now. I...
