Getting involved with development

I'm a mechanical engineering undergrad and I'll probably be building a printer for school. Is there any way for me to get involved with development? I'm currently focused on topology optimization (nTop).

Do you have a voron? That's generally the first step.
Ignoring that aspect, there's no direct way to "become official", you have to spend time being seen in the community, making a contribution. But, flip side of the coin: everything is open source. You can just. ...start working on whatever interests you, and publish it to gitub yourself, you don't need any special permission or access. If your work is of interest to others, it'll become part of the community, and other doors may open
