Potential for TAP based Z offset?

I kind of had an idea on how to do auto z offset calibration with TAP but I don't know if it's as consistent as I think it is between printers. I'm my case I use Optotap with vatali's TAP. And before anyone mention's beacon, I print on a 3mm sheet of galorite so it won't be accurate in my case.

my thought proccess is that we could do some basic math to get the offset by first moving the bed up till the probe triggers, which from when it homes and is at 0 seems to be -2.5mm with my setup. Then move down till it's no longer triggered, which is at -2.3mm for me. We could then use the absolute value of the 2nd value + 0.1mm to get the offset.

Granted, it might be more precise if not done purely in the mainsail menu, which only moves with precision up to 0.1mm. At least with my TAP it seems to be at its lowest when at Z=0 but not sure about others. I need more data than just 1 TAP to confirm whether this is viable.
