You don't say what printer you have. If it's a 2.4 then Stealthchanger is probably the most popular tool change system and supports XOL https://github.com/DraftShift/StealthChanger . If you have a Trident or other fixed gantry printer then it becomes a bit more complex. You can use Stealthchanger with a lift bar or the MadMax changer may be better suited https://github.com/zruncho3d/madmax/tree/main

Not sure I understand the question, on stealthchanger the tap functionality is built into each toolhead. Each head has an opto sensor in it which when docked onto the carriage allows for the 'tap' to be registered, pushing the head further up releases it which is how docking works. The stealthchanger github I linked to earlier has a full build guide.

Z height? Yes that's it. Its built into each toolhead. This gif shows best how it works motion the circuit board on the right attached to the toolhead is the opto sensor
