AM8/Switchwire hybrid build

Hello all,

So, I have finally decided to modify an old Anet A8 to a Switchwire hybrid (complete with Stealthburner and Knomi 2).

First port of call was to strip down the Anet A8 and see what parts I could salvage. The frame was swapped out to the AM8 upgrade and the motors were still good to go. I found the conversion files online via Maximilian Förg github page (https://github.com/maximilian-foerg/AM8-Switchwire-Mod). Seeing as I was gonna upgrade the frame, I thought I might as well upgrade the following :

Board - BTT SKR E3 Mini V3
Hotend - Voron Revo
Display screen - Knomi V2 c/w EBB SD 2209 usb canbus
PSU - Both Mean Well RS 25-5 and Mean Well LRS 350-24 (kept the original 240-12 for the heatbed)
Extruder - Clockwork 2

Ordering the parts was the easy part lol, layout and assembly proved a little interesting! The majority of the printed parts were already designed (thanks once again to Maximilian Förg), however, due to some of my parts being older or different to the original design, I had the joyous task of designing and printing custom parts - cue having to teach myself FreeCAD.

Once assembled, the next stage was the programming stage - again, another headache as some parts wouldn't work as stated, or I had to change the printing dimensions - still having issues with the Neopixel LEDs on the stealthburner (occasionally they work, they may show the correct colours occasionally etc ... checked the soldering etc, thinking it may be an issue with the coding).

Now the printer is actually working as described, the next stage will be to change the heatbed (currently using my original one) for a larger one. This will also include upgrading the frame and making it taller/wider as required for the new bed. This upgrade can wait for the time being as a lot of funds were used in the initial design.

I have attached photos for your viewing (please ignore the led cables protruding from the stealthburner as I initially thought the issue of not working was down to either cables being crushed or damaged during assembly - this will be corrected soon).

My other printer is an Ender 3 V2 and, once funds allow it, i will be looking at the v2.4.
