Talk me out of a 350 Tridex?

Hey all, I'm new here.

I've been rolling with my Ender 3 of Theseus since I bought it stock in 2019. It's still running great. I think I'm just ready for something larger and faster with some additional capabilities.

My end goal is just this: I want a printer that can go fast. Not "compete for world record speed benchy" fast, but faster than any bedslinger will ever be able to manage. Obviously it needs to be able to produce top-shelf quality (which my Ender 3 already does when tuned for the filament). To date I have printed exclusively PLA, PLA+, PETG, and TPU. I want to add some more exotic filaments to that list, which means vented enclosure with chamber temp control.

What I specifically don't care about is multicolor printing or tool changing. I've gone 6 years and only a handful of times have I wanted more than 1 color in a print. 2 is plenty. So I lean towards IDEX. The #1 biggest draw of IDEX to me is the ability to use non-alike support materials for easy removal with no z gap.

I figure if I'm gonna go down this rabbit hole anyway, might as well make it big enough that I never feel the need for an upgrade. Particularly considering that IDEX will cost me some printable space on the X axis.

So what do you think, is a 350 Tridex the right move for me, or is there a better option out there?

Reasonable to hope to build this for $1200?

Do it!

"Reasonable to hope to build this for $1200?"

Yes, with the extra NEW taxes in the US might be a stretch, but still achievable...especially with formbot kits (or fysetc, blurolls (if they are still around), etc.)

100% do it!

Im actively building mine right now, started with a 300 Trident Fabreeko/LDO kit, bought a 350 2.4 and have mashed the frames together to have 350 frame, 300 bed as to not lose any print space.

Im using the printed parts from the github below because I want nema 17's as opposed to nema 14's in the Frankenvoron idex build.

IMO 1200$ seems too low for this build, but would probably be close if you started with idex instead of building it later.

Good luck!
