V0... Umbilical issues???

So I've been running my V0.2 for quite a while now (258 hours) and it runs like a champ, I even updated to the R1 version and is one of my go to printers.
but i have been having issues with the umbilical on intervals... it seems to have issues with continuity on the plug and the main pcb (frame side)
it runs perfect with a new umbilical cable for up to a hundred hours or so and then it starts to loose continuity until it becomes unable to print with.

does anyone else have this issue?
if so what do you find is the cure for this as id like it to be a bit more reliable
i have replaced the cable now 3 times in 250 hours print time.
or is this just something to consider a consumable?

to give a brief summery of my machine
full R1 upgrade
standard umbilical (strain relief at hotend side)
dragon ST hotend
Kirigami bed....
basically all the trimmings
 
After going through 4 cables I found a solution it seems. Use a tiny flat head to put the slightest bend In all of the pins on both boards. When plugging the cable back in it should be slightly tighter. Do not force it if it won't plug in. You probably bent a few pins too far. Bend them back a bit and try again. I Haven't had any connection issues since , and I'm still using a cable I thought was bad.
 
I'm having the same issue with my LDO V0.2 kit. Have you found a solution to not have it break?

I'm thinking of ordering a custom cable from CableMod cables, still need to enquire if they do custom connectors because it mostly looks like PC power supply cables.
 
Anyone find a good solution to this? I had a couple cables fail and the intermittent connection also kills other components. I had to replace a heater with one cable and my latest cable failure killed the hot end fan too.

I don't really want to switch to CAN if I can help it since I don't need it for any other reason than these cable failures.
 
How does your failure manifest itself? Does it throw any warnings or just quit mid-print with no error? I'm having intermittent failures too. If I could root cause it to the umbilical I would just immediately swap to the Orbitool and USB cable instead of the wire bundle. I'm having trouble diagnosing which part is giving me trouble.

For me every time seems a little different. First time Klipper would report errors because the Hot end temperature spiked because the thermistor lost connection. The second time you could here the hot end fan stopping when the head was moving in different directions.
 
I had to register a account just to type this out. You˙re a damn hero. Thank you so much, this was exactly my issue. Cleaned and bent all contacts and tightened the female parts aswell.

In the end i got tired of this as i needed to do it every now and then.
Further research found that the umbilicals are shorter than spec (probably down to cost saving) by about 10-20mm.
I went full bore and got crimps and connectors and made up my own umbilical in the end and its been rock solid for morth a year and half.

Damn really? Because when I was trying to fix one of the connectors that was giving me intermittent cutoffs I noticed it was just broken within the cable. Can you hit me up with some parts. What type of connectors did you get and where?
