Z-Offset with TAP probe.

I need, please, to know, from TAP probe users whitout toolchanger setup(regular printer setup with TAP probe) what are your z-offset values, if you are so kind to take the time answer. Thank You.

  1. Make sure hot-end is clean...
  2. Run probe_calibrate in console...
  3. Place a piece of paper under the hot-end and adjust the settings in the current window (it will popup a window to allow changes)...
  4. Adjust up\down incrementally, when the point of the hot-end just contacts the paper, note the value...
  5. Add this value to config, save and restart..
My z_offset: -0.360 but it can vary quite a bit...

Notes:
z_offset has to be in printer.cfg for saving automatically, mine is in probe.cfg so I have to edit it manually, save and restart.

thank you both. my question has nothing to do with setting my z offset, I was just curious how big is the travel of TAP probe untill it triggers. I was expecting more answers,...

An interesting question, I assume you wanted to know the distance the probe moved moves before triggering?

I've measured it by running the probe calibration, lowering the probe (using the provided buttons in the window that pops up), until contact with the bed, I then placed several 0.01 mm shims under the hot-end until the led came on. Basically, I measured a distance between 0.05 and 0.06mm (constantly), the point the led lights indicating contact/triggering...

Not sure if this is what you wanted to know but it was a worthwhile exercise anyway...
I would also argue if you know this distance, you should be able to set the offset automatically relative to the bed.
