Question Request for Help-Large Cartesian Build!!!

GP Studio

New member
Hi everyone,

Our studio has a self-built 3D printer, and we’ve been running into some ongoing issues that I hope someone here can help with.

Printer Description
  • Frame base: Modix Z120 (converted to Cartesian)
  • Build volume: 600 × 600 × 1200 mm
  • Mainboard: BTT Octopus Pro V1.1
  • MCU: EBB SB2209 connected through U2C
  • Extruder: Voron StealthBurner
  • Probe: Voron Tap 2.0
  • Controller: Raspberry Pi 4 (8 GB)
  • Firmware: Klipper
  • Nozzle: 1.0 mm
  • Filament: GreenGate Recycled PETG

Background

When the machine was first assembled, it worked fine. Multiple Benchy prints and calibrations ran without issue.

However, tall prints (above ≈ 20 cm) consistently show layer shifting.

More recently, Klipper has begun reporting lost communication with the EBB MCU.

The wiring hasn’t been moved since the initial setup, yet the same error appears intermittently.

Re-seating connectors, re-feeding filament, cleaning the nozzle, and reflashing firmware didn’t resolve it.

The printer frame is rigid, all eight corners are bracketed, and print speeds are moderate.

Current Issue
  • Klipper dashboard reports: “Lost communication with MCU (EBB)”
  • EBB is recognized in Klipper before the print starts but loses connection afterward.
  • Layer shifting after 20cm

Any insight would be greatly appreciated — happy to share logs, photos, and configuration files if that helps.

Thank you so much in advance for your time and help!
