If you had to build another Voron?

Maybe look into RatRig or VzBot? Voron isn't the only game in town, and there are some really smart folks making some really smart stuff out there...not always in here!

Not trying to throw fuel on the fire, but while you are burning I thought I'd show you some other sources of flame.

And don't negate ADDING to what you have...tap-/stealth-changer, MMU, heated chamber for more engineering materials, belted bed to remove prints when done...etc, tons of mods out there to make it a completely new printer.

My brother has a ratrig V3 for little over 2 years now. He spent at least the same amount again to improve things. His opinion now is that if he had known then what he knows now he would buy a VZbot or Voron and not a ratrig.
He is by no means saying they are bad, just not in the same league as Voron or VZbot.

Don't!

I built my first 2.4 a couple years back. Now I have two 2.4s....and:
Two more 2.4s in boxes, a RatRig ready to put together, four VzBots (I already had 2 TronXYs), two more vzeroes to build, a Doron, and a Micron kit on the way.

But since that 2.4...I've also built a Switchwire, four MKS clones, three Vzeroes, LH Stinger, converted a couple cartesians to something better.

And that doesn't include all the pre-built printers I own.

It's a slippery slope...but if you have your indulgences in check you may be better off than I am. I go overboard when I find something I like to do.
fascinating. am I counting correctly when I venture the idea that you have 23+- printers in various stages of functioning!? wow. you're making me feel better about my compulsions! ;)

Correct, I have closer to 30, with ~23 operational now...and yes obsessiveness, and compulsiveness, is a real problem for some people.

Glad my compulsions are randomly at full force; I can go a long time without concerning myself with them, but I'll see something and be like "Wow!, I'd like to do that"...next thing you know I have 50+ drones on my walls behind my 30 printers!!!

I'd get help, but I'm okay with it, as long as my bank can keep up.

I have only one compulsion and that is to design and build things (hardware or software).
This is a genuine compulsion, I can't even go for a leisurely coffee without a note pad and pen so I can code or design something...
Coding is basically free, everything else costs money :)

If I was younger, I'd probably be running a printer farm by now... good job I'm old and don't have the space...

Anyway, I have decided to build another 4.2, just looking at sourcing parts separately as I have quite a few that come in a kit. should save quite a bit, at least that's what I tell myself.

V4.2. Now I am paying attention 😜
I am almost the same, except I am useless with coding. But as a machine engineer my head never stops thinking of how something should or could be done.
For this I taught myself 3dcad, first with openscad, now with onshape. I am also old enough to have started designs with a pencil and a straightedge. When Rotring came out it was a huge advancement 🤣😂

You sound a lot like me. I'm always jotting down things to build. I have about 20 notebooks laying around in various areas so I can just grab and write.

If I were younger...whoo...and single. Too much I want to do takes way too much time, single guys have it good for my kind of mind.

And that is for the coding...as I'm a programmer by trade. Programming is free...as long as you are free. When I was single, I had loads for programming; sometimes covering days...can't do that with kids...if I want to keep them all, that is.

Have fun my man, building them is the best part, imo.

Don't ask me, I'm a bad influence... I have two V2.4 300's and I just finished a self sourced V2.4 350 last week.
In the company of some well known members here, you, and I hasten to add myself, are just on the first rung of the ladder of bad influence 😂🤣.
But if we include other hobbies , I am fairly sure I will be on shared first place or maybe even undisputed first.
Don’t tell my wife I see this as a good thing 😎

I guess as we share interest in well engineered gadgets, it's not surprising we share similar experiences.
I too have many Rotring pencils and countless notepads, but these days I use FreeCad and Kicad for everything...

My first programs were shareware mostly DOS utilities, I would upload to universities and wait...
People would send me donations, it was basicall very low cost shareware/freeware...

I wrote a DOS commandline utility called Run , it would search for all executables and create a data file (containing the exact paths).
Then you could type something like: Run Doom or run doom.exe and it would launch Doom
Run searched the data file for a match and ran it, if there was more than one instance, you were given the choice, you could also append...
It was doing exceptionally well untill later that year, Windows launched Windows 95, which also put my main program: Dos Navigator Menu out of action...
I wrote in C and assembly but now I can't remember but I still have all the source :)

Since then, I only build for opensource...

I found that being able to model opened up a whole new world of use for my printers. I repair stuff and sell some stuff occasionally. But the biggest is building models of things and print the parts for them. Without being able to model my own I would be printing only other peoples stuff.
